Hi all

Ive had this problem since ive installed Windows 7.

Ok for the record its a retail boxed Windows 7 64bit Home Premium installed on clean formatted hdds.

I use the hybrid sleep mode which is fab and fantasically quick but once my 630i has been to sleep I can't access the Nvidia Control panel. The usual way I access it is by right clicking the desktop and left clicking Nvidia Control Panel. I have tried accessing it other ways and it always turns out the same way I get the usual busy windows circle for a few seconds and nothing. If I restart then try and access it its fine but I have noticed that after its been into sleep and I try and access it sometimes when I restart to access it as it's shutting down it comes up so I'm guessing it might be trying to start.

My Dell 630i is stock not overclocked and the specs you can see below in my sig.

Any help would be most appreciated. :))

Hi steve, I think there are a few problems with windows 7 sleep from what iv'e read on the net, since I upgraded from vista to windows 7, every time I play a graphicaly demanding game after resuming from sleep (examples mw2, grid) my pc locks up within seconds. This never happened with vista and is fine if I restart. Sorry this dosn't solve your problem but at least you know your not alone with windows 7 sleep problems

I have also heard that the XPS 630 has issues with Windows 7 and resuming from sleep. Just curious, what version of ESA Software are you using? The most stable and current version that I know of is 6.03, but there is also a 6.05 version, but some users have reported it being "buggy."

If you are using version 6.03, I would go ahead and try 6.05. I have used it, and have not seen any "buggy" activity with it. It might fix the problem.

Also, I believe that the ESA Software was originally certified for only Windows XP and Vista. So that may be the problem too.

I'm currently using 6.03.06. What sort of problems have other people had with 6.05 as I'm a bit loathed to give myself extra problems. lol

I havent experienced any myself, but some people told me that it was not reading or adjusting the fan speeds properly, but when I tried 6.05, I didnt experiece anything like that. It could be different for each PC, but I would just say, give it a shot. If it doesnt work, you can always go back to 6.03.

Well, I guess that is one of the bugs. LOL.

I guess it is just one of those incompatibility issues with the 630i. I am reading on the net and see a lot of people have this issue with Windows 7. Its probably a BIOS related problem or just a software conflict, but I dont think Dell will be making any new BIOS updates for the XPS series anymore, and the ESA Software has not had any updates to it in over a year. In the end, I think its all related to the motherboard.

I guess the best thing is to just not use sleep mode. I was having an issue with resuming from sleep and my USB ports not working with my XPS 730x, and that is why they are swapping my system out with a different one (after multiple hardware replacements).

You can try calling Dell (considering you still have warranty) and see if they will do something. You never know, they might even swap out your system for something newer, like a Studio XPS or an Alienware.

I use sleep mode everyday but I dont play games everyday or access the nvidia control panel everyday so when I want to play games I'll just reboot before a nights gaming as windows 7 reboots very quickly its no hardship once a week lol.

God loseing that chassis icon could have gone horribly wrong lol. I also read where people had done what I had done and never got the chassis icon back phewwww!!
